Description
Susan says "Fresh, authentic Pau Pereira (Geissospermum laeve; syn. G. vellosii) bark – 32 oz. (1 kg.) bulk powder is very hard to find - and it's not cheap. It is, however, VERY cost effective for people who will be using it over a long period of time. Here's the arithmetic. Pau Pereira 500 mg capsules in the 100-count bottle is $22. A kilo of Pau Pereira bulk powder is $260. That's a LOT, you're probably thinking, until you consider what you are getting. A kilo of powder is equivalent of 22 bottles.
Pau Pereira is easily brewed as tea, encapsulated at your kitchen table (fun and relaxing!), and excellent in juices, smoothies or even sprinkled on yogurt.
Preparations:
The bitter bark of Pau Pereira is traditionally taken in Brazil in the form of a decoction, infusion (tea), or fluid extract for the support intestinal and liver health, as well as appetite and digestion.
To prepare a decoction of Pau Pereira, use 30 g of the bark for each liter of water. Bring water to a boil in an open ceramic pot and then add the powder. Reduce the heat to medium-low and place the lid on the pot. Allow the mixture to simmer for 20 minutes. Pour the mixture through a fine strainer and allow it to cool for a time before drinking. Refrigerate unused portions in a well sealed container. The traditional dosage is 1 cupful 3 times daily.
An infusion of Pau Pereira is traditionally prepared in Brazil by storing the bark in cold water. A cupful is taken 3 times a day. Before ingestion, the liquid should be poured through a fine strainer to remove any sediment.
The powdered bark of Pau Pereira is also available in capsules.
