Preparations
Widely known in Brazil, Guaco is traditionally prepared as an infusion (tea) taken at a suggested dosage of half a cup, 4 times daily.
To prepare an infusion of Guaco, place half a cup of the powdered leaves in a tea ball or gauze bag and allow the powder to steep in 1 liter of freshly boiled hot water in a covered ceramic pot for 10–15 minutes. Pour the infusion through a fine strainer to remove any sediment and allow it to cool for a time before drinking. Refrigerate unused portions in a well sealed container.
Guaco contains high amounts of a sweet-smelling anticoagulant compound known as coumarin. For that reason, Guaco should not be used by individuals taking blood-thinning drugs without the supervision of a physician.
Caution: Not for internal use during pregnancy or lactation. If you are taking medications or have a medical condition, consult with a health care professional before use. Keep this product out of the reach of children.
