Sarsaparilla (Smilax officinalis) root – 2.2 lb (kilo) bulk powder. 

Please note that due to powder density, this product may ship in one double poly bag or 2 containers of 8 oz. each. 

Bulk orders are prepared once a week. Each order is prepared in the order it is received. Cut-off time for bulk orders is each Thursday at 10 AM. Orders received after 10 AM ship the following week. Thank you for your understanding.

Preparations

Sarsaparilla is traditionally prepared for use as a decoction. To make a decoction of the powdered root, bring 2 cups of water to a boil in a ceramic pot, add 4 tsp. of the powder, cover the pot with a tight-fitting lid, and allow the mixture to boil for 5 minutes. Reduce the temperature to medium and allow the mixture to simmer for 20 minutes. Pour the decoction through a fine tea-strainer to remove any sediment and allow it to cool for a time before drinking. Refrigerate unused portions in a well sealed container. 

The decoction is taken at a dosage of one-half to a full cup, 2 times a day.
